Pop The Cap With #ncbeer in Winston-Salem #ncbeermonth
Only a few more days left to enter the NC Beer Month Getaway right HERE. Beer school. Dinner for 2. Swag bag. 2-night stay. Southern hospitality. All yours, just a click away!
While breweries and brewpubs are the birthplace of craft beer, where does the beer go once it's kegged, bottled or canned? The bottle shop.
A bottle shop is like preschool for your beer before you buy it. There's an application (the behind the scenes stuff to get the beer in the shop), tuition fee (you paying for the beer) teachers (the shop owners and employees) and social interaction (the wide selection of beer available).
Winston-Salem (and the surrounding area) has quite a few bottle shops to get your growler filled, your cap popped or your pint toasted. When you're done visiting Foothills, Small Batch or Hoots, you can belly up to the bar at one (or more) of these shops and ask questions about the cool history behind each one.
List of select Winston-Salem/Forsyth County bottle shops
Carolina Vineyards & Hops
1111 Marshall Street #184
Winston-Salem, NC
The first social establishment in NC dedicated to serving ONLY NC beers, wines and cheeses. It's literally the "gateway" to all things NC during NC Beer Month
Brewer's Kettle
308 East Mountain Street
Kernersville, NC
Carolina’s Vineyards & Hops
1111 S Marshall St
City Beverage
915 Burke Street
Winston-Salem
The fun, cool thing about this shop is how it was acquired by owners (and father/son duo) Sonny and Spencer: City Beverage is Winston's oldest bottle shop (to my knowledge) opened in 1946. The shop was won by Sonny in a poker game! I do believe it's the greatest win of all time.
Stella Brew
1305 S Hawthorne Rd
6th and Vine
209 West 6th St
Washington Perk & Provision Co.
228 W Acadia Ave
Corks Caps and Taps
626 W Fourth St
Grapes And Grains
2535 Lewisville Clemmons Rd
Clemmons, NC
Juggheads
4843 Country Club Road
The best part: the owner of Juggheads is a college classmate of mine, Ben Pritchard, and I'm proud to be a Pirate with him and call him a friend. Juggheads is 32-tap craft beer growler filling station and bottle shop. They specialize in NC craft beers, where you can enjoy a pint before you fill your 32oz or 64oz Growler. They also carry local soda, kombucha, as well as bottles of craft beer from the US and abroad.uggheads is a 32-tap craft beer growler filling station and bottle shop.
