Strawberry Lemonade Sangria is my contribution to the Juneteenth Cookout Celebration!
Lemoncello, rosé, lemonade & a fresh strawberry pureé tinged with vodka will help usher in the next season of summmer and the day melt away as you remember that #BlackLivesMatter as you sip on this at home or at your social gathering.

Red drinks are an essential culinary part of Juneteenth celebrations. The tradition connects Black folks to the past and helps mold our future declarations of Black joy. Sangria means "blood" which is the symbol for the blood shed prior to emancipation back in 1865. Drinking the red sangria in celebration is a testament to our resilience and pride.

Summer is right around the corner and hopefully this sangria recipe will help remind you that #BreonnaTaylor deserves justice. It's also a great way to use up summer's bounty before it's time to start protesting silently, violently or with your wallets.

WHAT WINE CAN BE SUBSITUTED FOR ROSé?

Pour your favorite light-bodied wine for this. When something is deemed light-bodied, it refers to the mouthfeel of the liquid. Think of water. Water is light-bodied, coffee with cream is medium-bodied and homemade hot chocolate is heavy.

Whether it's Rosé, Riesling or an aggressively oaky Chardonnay, it pairs perfectly with anti-racism & allyship.

WHAT'S THE BEST FRUIT FOR SANGRIA?
The acidity and brightness of citrus and sweetness from the strawberry pairs with nearly every wine and spirit combination. To continue with the Juneteenth theme, raspberries, cherries, pomegranate, watermelon and red grapes can be used.
